Factors increasing the risk of stent thrombosis

The factors related to the stent which increase the chance of stent thrombosis are first generation drug eluting stents, greater stent length, stents deployed in bifurcations, very small diameter stents, stent size lesser than optimal for vessel diameter, underdeployment of the stent, and the presence of instent restenosis.

Other factors which can enhance the risk of stent thrombosis are diabetes mellitus, left ventricular dysfunction and in cases presenting as acute coronary syndrome.
